Publisher's Description:

NW Docx Converter - The NW Docx Converter -" Docx2Rtf" is a freeware file converter for MS Word 2007 (*.docx, *.dotx) and OpenOffice (*.sxw, *.odt) files. You do not need OpenOffice or Office 2007 to be installed for the program to work. Word 2007 docx files and OpenOffice files will be converted with partial formatting. Docx2Rtf will also open, view and print: Html, PDF and Rtf files, MS Works (*.wps) and documents stored in PalmOS Database (*.pdb) and Aportis (*.prc) formats. The latest version of Docx2Rtf adds graphics to the list of files that can be viewed, including multi-page tiff files. Now has the ability to extract plain text from standard Word doc files.

Now supports 10 languages. Saves settings.

You can now use Docx2Rtf with a commandline interface. See readme.txt for usage.

Unfortunately the program did not do what I was hoping it to do. I am using Open Office 3.3.0, and this version seems to open docx filees just fine - or at least one is able to read and edit the text in those files. However, incompatibility persists when it comes to graphic files. I had several doxc files in which imported diagrams disappeared when opened in Open Office. I was hoping to be able to see these diagram by using NW DocX Converter 4.0, but it had the same problems as Open Office 3.3.0.

I would say it is a good portable software. But I sometimes do not sure if it supports unicode.

It stopped working the minute I treid it. Downloaded well, startet up, but using it? Not a chance. Restarted it several times, downloaded it again even, but it would not work.

I tried converting a single-page ODT file to RTF. The resulting file was four pages in length(!!!) and all formatting was lost. Needless to say, I have uninstalled Docx2Rtf and erased the downloaded file. Score: zero.

I downloaded the converter after trying a few others that had failed for one reason or another. This one was easy, works great, I recommend this to anyone.

Hi

I was relieved to find an "opener" for docx files, but what was not mentioned was that it might take time to receive the converted document. I don't mind waiting, but as I didn't know it would take an hour to have the file converted - I was disappointed and thought that the product didn't work.

Perhaps you could mention that the conversion takes time.

Otherwise the document conversion worked fine.

Thanks

V

I don't have much hair left but I was pulling out what there was. Despite having downloaded the converter from Microsoft, I still could not open docx. files. Your converter is brilliant, conversion to rtf. will do for me. It is also very effecient to use - thanks.

Downloaded and installed onto a USB Drive, ran without issues. Converted a .docx file into an .rtf without issues at all.

In fact I tried several different services and found this one to convert most accurately.

Can't recommend this highly enough.

Hey.. using DOCx2Rtf was easy and really fast... I had tried some other provider's docx convertor and it only did the first page for free which was really shitty so finding yours was a real treat indeed and since I was on a tight deadline, it enabled me to revise an article faster than expected...your free offering was a real boon so thanks and keep up the good work guys!

NW Docx Converter was very helpful. It was able to open a *.docx file that had come as an email attachment that we could not open otherwise. This was the first time we had run into this problem, but as the *.docx format becomes more prevalent, the problem will arise again as we are not planning on getting any newer versions of our software in the foreseeable future.

DocX Converter

The product was satisfactory in so far as it did convert text. However
some graphics were lost in the translation so it was not 100%.

Relatively good

Very easy to install, no admin rights required,
Converts without problem.
Has problem to display the converted doc.
I had to save the converted .rtf file and then open it with Write.
The converted doc was OK.

But with "NW Docx Converter" it has worked imediatelly.

Lacks auto open of files.

The converter works well in that it can open the files for you to look at, which is the reason I downloaded it in the first place. Improvement could be made in opening the files just by clicking the files themselves rather than by opening the reader and then opening the file.

Davidrumsey 2009-02-08 08:37:36 #

Does what it says

I downloaded NW Docx converter as a Wordperfect user to convert a .docx I received and noted that it is basically a .docx to .rtf translation. It did it's job very well within the limitations of rtf. The compilers of this program might consider doing a couple of extra versions some day
- in Windows, .docx to .wpd and back
- in Linux (which is the way I am currently heading anyway) Open Office .odt or similar to .wpd and .back.
For me WordPerfect (Windows) and Open Office (Linux) provide all my needs including to .pdf and many other formats and back. I use MS Word (2003) very infrequently - sorry, but I really hate it! - although it does have a .doc to .docx and back facility.

A Satisfied User

Your application "Docx Converter" offered on your web site was quite simple to download, easily used, and worked perfectly in opening a document sent to me with the *.docx format. Thank you for simplifying my MS Word experience.

Dotx didn`t work exactly

We tried converting a dotx file back to a dot file, and it did not display all of the form fields as expected. We eventually get upgraded to Office 2007 and used the dotx file. Cool tool though!

Good, lean product worked as promised

Looking for a .docx converter in a hurry I found NW Docx Converter 2.9 (as well as several online converters). I tried NW Docx Converter 2.9 as well as the online ones. It was faster to download NW Docx Converter 2.9, and then perform the conversion than to receive an email notification from one of the online jobs. So your product wins hands down. Simple, easy, gets the job done in no time. Great!

Near Perfect simple solution

Requirement: to read .docx files
Software: Docx2Rtf Ver. 2.9 from NativeWinds
Date Installed: 19-July-2008
Searched the newsgroups and of the alternatives I found this to be the easiest to use and install. Downloaded and expanded the zip files to a sub-directory under "Program Files" called Doc2RTF. Tested the program and "it did what it said on the box". For convenience I then linked the docx file type to Docx2Rtf. The display is useful to check whether it is worth saving at all. Almost as good as a direct filter as program loads quickly to the extra operation is hardly noticeable.

DocX Converter 2.7

This programme although far from ideal does seem to solve the immediate problem and allows me to open docX in Open office so on a basic level it works. Would be nice to see the ability to save in different formats particularly Open Office Write format.
